It is with great pleasure that the PANDDA Committee welcome you to Sydney and Parramatta for the 28th Annual PANDDA Conference. The theme for this year’s Conference is “Waves of Change …Oceans of Opportunity…Start with Us”.

The conference program will focus on Change and Opportunities, acknowledging that change and opportunity can indeed start with us. The New World that is the National Disability Insurance Scheme provides nurses with the opportunity to take the plunge and ride the waves or stay on the dry sand.

You will discover that the work of the Keynote, Invited and Program Speakers is both amazing and inspiring. You will also hear from nurses who are navigating the waves of change and harnessing opportunities, including advocating the abilities of people with intellectual developmental disabilities, and whether their journey has left them waving or drowning in a sea of opportunities.

So come along, take the plunge and experience what is new, interesting and uplifting as we learn and share together. We have assembled an inspired group of swimmers and paddlers including the following.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Dr Henrietta Trip, New Zealand

Carla Watson and Cristina Blanch, Tasmania

Alastair McEwin, Disability Discrimination Commissioner, Australian Human Rights Commission

INVITED SPEAKERS

Jim Simpson, Senior Advocate, NSW Council for Intellectual Disability

Sue Willis, Director of Academic Program (Clinical), Western Sydney University and Pam Brunner, Executive Director, Disability Operations North, FACS NSW

PROGRAM PRESENTERS

Lorraine Betterson, Georgina Hoddle, Natalie Duckworth, Gabrielle Macaulay, Virginia Howie, Catharine Hulst, Robyn Buller, Hayden Jaques, Dr Michele Wiese, and Dr Nathan Wilson. Uncle Greg Simms will again offer us a warm Welcome to Country.

PANDDA RESEARCH PROJECT

We are also pleased to bring you information about a project titled “Redeveloping the Speciality Practice Standards for IDD Nursing: The NDIS and Beyond”. This project is the result of a grant awarded to PANDDA by the NSW Department of Family and Community Services to conduct research followed by the redevelopment of the PANDDA Practice Standards. PANDDA has entered into a 12-month research partnership with the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Western Sydney University to conduct the research stage of the project.

PLEASE JOIN US

As always, you will have the opportunity to debate, contribute and discuss the topics being presented and there will be ample opportunities to catch up with familiar faces and make new connections during the conference.

Our sponsors have once again been generous and willing partners in this our 28th Annual National Conference.

We look forward to meeting you at the 28th Annual National PANDDA Conference and AGM.

Bob Weaver OAM and Damian Heron, on behalf of the Conference Committee
